American Folk Art * Antiques * Primitives * Fine Reproduction Goodes

"The young wife wiped the dirt off the soldier, first with a green leaf, and then with her fine handkerchief~it had such a delightful smell, that it was to the pewter soldier just as if he had awakened from a trance."
~ Hans Christian Andersen

During the 18th century, pewter was the predominate metal used in the household.  Pewter was affordable to almost everyone, and was utilitarian in form (utensils, cups, plates, bowls, etc.)   Nevertheless, the pewterer would take great pride in the craftsmanship of each piece.  When newly made, pewter shined like silver, but with use took on its more familiar “primitive” patina.

These reproduction pewter pieces are hand cast in antique molds.  The imperfections which appear in the pieces are not "mistakes"
by the pewterer, but rather reflect the characteristics of each mold resulting from age and years of use.  ~ LEAD FREE ~
